Seasonal Tour Guide Jobs in Alaska
Everyone likes to do cool things, but not many people get paid for it. If you would like to get paid to take people on adventurous outings, then a job as a land tour guide may be perfect for you.
Tourists always want to experience Alaska when they set foot in cool places like Ketchikan, Seward, Juneau, or Haines. They want to see the sights, sounds, and scenery of wild Alaska.
When the cruise ships head to the seaside ports of Alaska, land tour guides are there to show tourists an Alaskan adventure, like...
- Wildlife viewings
- Photo tours
- Historical walks
- Gold mining
- Riverboat tours
- Dog sledding
- Scenic drives
- Day hikes
- Sea kayaking
- Bird watching
The land tour guides are called a variety of names depending on the company and activity. They are responsible for organizing activities and coordinating with step-on or adventure guides to make sure the day runs smoothly. They must attend to all aspects of the trip including pick up and drop off times, activities, food, transportation, waivers, and everything else. They also have to deal with any and all surprises that come up - challenging passengers, natural disasters, lost reservations, sick clients, missing sightseers, and more.
An Opportunity to Organize and Lead
In order to be a land tour guide, you need to be organized and enjoy people. In this gig, you will be working with a well-traveled group of people for 8 to 10 hours a day and 5 to 6 days per week. Travel knowledge, organizational skills, guest service, and a foreign language are all good things to have on the resume. As the local source of knowledge, you must be prepared to answer lots of questions on just about everything Alaska has to offer. You will be paid well, probably pocket a few tips, and you get to do really awesome things for free!
Working as a land tour guide means that you might get to work entirely with cruise ships through their land-based operations, or you may lead entire trips through Alaska on planes, buses, vans, boats, trains, or even bicycles. There are lots of opportunities to earn a paycheck for taking people on super fun tours to places like Denali, Kenai Fjords, Seward, or Prince William Sound.
Plus you help your clients create memories that will last a lifetime.
Land tour guide jobs are perfect opportunities to live in the mind bogglingly cool regions of Alaska. If you enjoy fun things and can make sure people have a good time, then this job is easy. And you'll love it.
